Hard Rock International, Seminole Gaming to Eliminate Plastic Straws
August 22, 2018
Hard Rock International (HRI) intends to eliminate plastic straws at properties worldwide effective Sept. 1. Likewise, Seminole Gaming announced the elimination of plastic straws at its six Florida casinos by the same date.
This measure is in addition to green initiatives already in place at the Hard Rock cafes, hotels, and casinos globally and at Seminole’s Florida casinos. Durable, earth-friendly drinking straws will now be available to customers upon request. Beyond this measure, both companies transitioned to using paper to-go bags last month.
Hard Rock International and Seminole Gaming are owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, and two of Seminole Gaming’s six Florida casinos—the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa and the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood—operate under the Hard Rock brand. Seminole’s other Florida locations are the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, the Seminole Classic Casino in Hollywood, the Seminole Casino Immokalee, and the Seminole Casino Brighton.
“One of Hard Rock's founding mottos is to ‘Save the Planet,’ and this is only an extension of the commitment we made to do just that 47 years ago,” says Tracy Bradford, senior vice president of purchasing for Hard Rock International. “Our vendors and partners have been and will continue to be instrumental in activating this endeavor across the globe, and we are proud to help make a difference in conscientious sustainability practices as a business—it’s the right thing to do.”
In regards to Seminole Gaming, Bradford says, “Seminole Gaming restaurants already utilize reusable, recyclable or eco-friendly to go containers. As the gaming operation of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, Seminole Gaming is proud to help make a difference in conscientious sustainability practices.” She also notes that Seminole Gaming recycles cardboard and wood pallets.
Hard Rock International plans to announce more ‘Save the Planet’ initiatives in the next few months, including partnerships with key charities that share their values of protecting the earth’s natural resources and environment.
