SPE’s Automotive Division is calling for nominations for its Innovative Parts Competition at the 2018 Automotive Composites Conference & Exhibition in Novi, Mich., this September.

The conference, held Sept. 5 to 7 at the Suburban Collection Showplace, will feature the seventh-annual innovative parts competition. Any registered conference participant may nominate original equipment or aftermarket composite parts on passenger vehicles, light trucks, and heavy trucks from any geography. Prototypes are also eligible.

The vehicle producer must give permission, and the part must be brought to the SPE ACCE for formal review by judges.

A total of five prizes will be awarded, including four for the most innovative production part and prototype part in materials innovation and process innovation categories, as well as one people’s choice award. Winning teams will receive recognition and a trophy after lunch on the last day of the show.

In 2017, there were seven nominations submitted and three prizes awarded. Those all went to Magna International Inc. Their Class A, painted injection-molded thin-wall body panels in polypropylene carbon fiber took the most innovative material category and the carbon fiber composite front perimeter subframe prototype won the most innovative process category. Magna also took the people’s choice award.

Nominations are due Aug. 30 and should be emailed to teri@intuitgroup.com. For instructions on making a nomination, visit http://speautomotive.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/SPE-ACCE-2018-Parts-Competition-Info-Nomination-Instructions-1.pdf.
