Canon Virginia Inc. demonstrated three molding machines feature four molds in its 9,000 square-foot booth at NPE2018 in Orlando earlier this month. Canon Virginia, based in Newport News, Va., a subsidiary of Canon U.S.A. Inc., provides custom manufacturing solutions, including mold making, injection molding, medical contract manufacturing, and automated assembly capabilities.

“Canon is setting a high standard for delivery of advanced technologies and manufacturing excellence,” says Toru Nishizawa, president and chief executive officer of Canon Virginia. “This year’s booth at NPE will feature some of Canon’s latest manufacturing technology. This is a unique demonstration of our core capabilities in molding, machine vision, and a wide range of manufacturing technologies.”

At NPE, the company featured high-precision machining, microfluidics, additive manufacturing, and machine texturing, including a live demonstration of next-generation texturing for molds capable of replacing traditional chemical processes.

“This next-generation technology creates textures that the human eye perceives not as a flat surface but rather patterns with tactile differentiations,” says Takashi Arai, vice president of the advanced manufacturing technology group for Canon Virginia. “It is used to evaluate the texture’s sensory response and reflection control.”

The company also demonstrated automated custom production machine vision and collaborative robotics guided by Canon vision system technology.
