Employees from Sekisui Specialty Chemicals participated in the River, Lakes, Bays ‘N Bayous Trash Bash in Texas this March. A team from the company’s Pasadena, Texas, plant and its Houston Technology Center geared up with safety equipment to clean up the woods surrounding and banks abutting the Sims Bayou near Houston.

“There were a lot of tiny pieces of Sytrofoam and plastic bottles that had been shredded by grass mowers,” says Jenna Timtiman, an environmental engineering with Sekisui. “It made it clear that preventing litter would be more helpful than picking it up later. On the bright side, it was great to see so many other business and community organizations taking part in the event.”

Statistics weren’t in for the 2018 event by press time, but 2017’s event boasted 51.9 tons of trash picked up and 1.46 tons of material recycled.

Sekisui produces high-performance polyvinyl alcohol polymers and copolymers used in paper, adhesives, packaging, construction, personal care, and many other formulations.
