PinnPACK, an Oxnard, Calif.-based thermoforming company that specializes in sustainable food packaging, acquired the exclusive North American rights to manufacture and distribute the DeLight Ltd. hybrid foodservice tray.

The hybrid tray is made from renewable paper sources and enhanced with plastic polymers.

“Compared to current pressed paperboard products, the DeLight tray provides improved sealability and functionality,” says a statement from PinnPACK. “It is the first modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) paper-based tray. In addition to its barrier properties, the tray can withstand microwave, conventional oven, and freezer applications.”

The product, according to Jason Farahnik, PinnPACK’s director, is ideal for the company’s customer base.

“Our customer base is extremely excited about this offering,” he says. “Beyond the fact that this expands our portfolio, allowing us the ability to become a full-spectrum provider of food packaging, we are now helping our customers differentiate themselves from the commoditized CPET (crystallized PET) and PP trays.”

PinnPACK produces packaging made from post-consumer recycled PET, among other things. It is a subsidiary of CarbonLITE, a bottle-to-bottle recycling company.
