An expanded NPE2015 Startup Garage will give both startup companies operating within or adjacent to the plastics industry, and their potential investors, buyers and business partners an unparalleled opportunity for both sides of the equation to take the next step toward bringing tomorrow’s cutting edge plastic products and materials to the next level.

SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association produces the triennial NPE, and has partnered with new-venture tracking firm Startup.Directory to provide 16 startups with prominently located exhibit stations at NPE2015, taking place March 23-27 in Orlando, Fla.

Companies selected to exhibit in the Startup Garage will highlight their innovations in bioplastics, recycling, 3D printing, polymerization, resin processing and antimicrobial polymers. Three of the startups report developments in the burgeoning field of graphenes—two-dimensional carbon-atom nanostructures that can be used for formulating plastics composites with dramatically enhanced properties.

Originally, the size of the Startup Garage was going to be limited to fewer companies, but overwhelming marketplace interest drove SPI to expand the space to accommodate more startups, and also more potential investors, buyers, distributors and partners looking to get in on the ground floor.

“The response to our call for applicants was met with an enthusiastic response by new companies doing exciting things at the forefront of polymer technology,” said Brad Williams, SPI’s director of trade show sales and marketing. “While some of these startups propose new ways to address pressing issues involving renewable resources and waste reduction, others offer enhancements of plastics manufacture and product performance. The quality of the exhibitors led us to expand the Startup Garage space to accommodate more startups.”

All Startup Garage companies were selected jointly by NPE2015 show management and Startup.Directory from a group of eligible companies that applied for exhibition space online. “NPE represents the entire plastics supply chain, from suppliers to processors to brand owners and OEMs, including all of the leading established companies in the industry,” Williams said. “We have created the NPE2015 Startup Garage to ensure the inclusion of new ventures, whose innovative approaches will further the growth of our industry and benefit the companies in it.”
